Come from Away - a story of humanity and hope lands in Bairnsdale

It's hard to believe that almost 25 years have passed since the world watched in horror as two hijacked airliners crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, while another struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and a fourth crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Bairnsdale Production Line's upcoming musical explores one of the stories of human resilience that emerged from that tragedy. Thousands of stories came out of the horror in New York, but there is one story to tell about September 11 but there is one story to tell that happened more than 2000km away - in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada.

It's the story of the Come From Aways, the name locals gave the nearly 7,000 people (and 19 animals), from 38 planes that landed in Gander after American airspace was closed.

Come From Away's production manager(and lighting designer extraordinaire) ) Haylee Treasure, says

The cast and crew are working really hard to bring this incredible, moving and funny story to life. The town of Gander is comparable in size to Bairnsdale and I'd hard to imagine nearly 40 international planes landing at our local airport and all those people needing a safe place to sleep and eat But it's amazing how people come together when something like this happens I have no doubt Bairnsdale would step up to the plate, just like Gander did.

Director, Peter Martignoles, thinks Bairnsdale audiences

will be incredibly impressed with how well our cast brings this story to life. The harmonies sound spectacular and the cast has done incredibly well to take on the challenge of multiple characters. If you have never seen one of our shows before this is the one you do not want to miss.
